Program: After-School Creative Arts Lab

Our After-School Creative Arts Lab partners with SUN School programs to give students a hands-on space for exploring creativity, visual arts, and STEAM projects. Over 8 weeks, students experiment with materials like paint, paper, textiles, and recycled objects while connecting their creations to personal stories, culture, and the environment.

Each session encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and self-expression as students work on both individual and collaborative projects. This program focuses on building critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork through practical, playful experiences with art and design.

Program Goals:

  • Develop STEAM skills and creative problem-solving through hands-on projects.

  • Strengthen storytelling and reflection by discussing and writing about their artwork.

  • Build social-emotional skills like collaboration, empathy, and confidence.

  • Promote environmental awareness through the use of recycled and eco-friendly materials.

The program concludes with a Final Showcase, where students share their projects with families and the school community, celebrating their creativity, collaboration, and accomplishments.

 

Program: Bilingual Puppet Theater

Our Bilingual Puppet Theater program is an 8-week after-school experience where Latino youth explore creativity, culture, and storytelling in both Spanish and English.

Students design and build their own puppets using recycled materials, write original scripts, and bring their stories to life through performance. Along the way, they build confidence, strengthen their bilingual literacy, and develop important social skills like teamwork, empathy, and leadership.

The program ends with a special performance where families and community members come together to celebrate the students’ work, culture, and creativity.

Program Goals:

  • Boost bilingual literacy and public speaking by giving youth a safe space to share their stories on stage.
  • Build social-emotional skills like empathy, teamwork, and leadership through group scriptwriting and performance.
  • Foster environmental awareness by using recycled materials and exploring themes of community care and sustainability.
